Show Business

Getting ready for a show makes me think of all the peripheral stuff that comes from being an artist and presenting to the public. Not only are you putting yourself out there for the rest of the world to judge but there is the costs of framing, getting postcards out, publicity releases, organizing a reception and on and on. Most of the time you join the gallery you are showing at, or you pay for the space. It is no mean feat and yet, when people come to a show they exclaim how expensive the work is. Of course that does not include the supplies to make the work nor the time that goes into creating a piece. Consider many things when you look at a artwork, as well as the cut that the gallery takes or the fee that the artist pays for the venue. No picnic here.

All that being said, I wish I had a crystal ball to foecast the sales. I would feel better.

Support your local artist and give their work a home.
